About the Commonwealth Youth Parliament

Find out about the Commonwealth Youth Parliament

The Commonwealth Youth Parliament is held in a different Commonwealth region each year. The conference gives up to 66 young people from across the Commonwealth an opportunity to experience parliamentary democracy and connect with young people from around the world.

The Youth Parliament was due to be held in the British Virgin Islands in October 2017 but was cancelled due to the hurricanes which devastated the Caribbean. The Jersey branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is delighted to host the ninth annual conference.

Youth parliamentarians take part in educational sessions led by experienced parliamentary officials. They also take part in parliamentary proceedings including question time and debate and vote on legislation and motions.

The Youth Parliament forms part of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s promotion of the Commonwealth and the concept of parliamentary democracy to young people.
